Nicolas Chen
Evans Place Gallery proudly presents the first show and sale of painter Nicolas Chen. Born in Melbourne, Nic was quickly identified as a gifted artist in his youth. His early formal training was at the prestigious Julian Ashton Art School in Sydney.
From Sydney Nic travelled to Italy studying at the Florence Academy of Art from 2011 - 2014. Nic is currently teaching drawing and painting at the Victorian Artists Society.
His numerous awards and scholarships include:
2019 Eutick Memorial Still Life Award, Finalist.
2018 A.M.E Bale Travelling Scholarship, Major Award Recipient.
2013 Studio Assistant Teaching Scholarship, Florence Academy of Art.
The physical act of painting excites the artist in Nicolas. His intent is to use a semi abstract paint application to achieve an even higher form of realism.

Peter Brown
Born and raised in Melbourne, Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. At the age of 8 Peter“sold’ his first work – a drawing of a battleship which a classmate bartered for a Mars bar chocolate!
He graduated from Melbourne University with a degree in architecture. As part of his degree he studied fine art.
Peter's main driver is design, which he maintains is the ‘biggest’ word in the English language.
His current work responds to his lament over the present hi-tech urbanized culture losing touch with the earth and its landscape. Noting the ubiquitous bar-code as being the accurate icon of this age, he has taken the bar-code out of context and applied it to landscape as a method of connecting our culture back to its natural landscape to which it must again relate, if it’s life is to have any spiritual and holistic universal meaning.
